Puppies Die in Heated Car

Editor Pat: This is a good time to remind everyone that it's Never a good idea to leave pets inside your vehicle during summertime. The interior of your vehicle heats up fast and gets much too hot for dogs and cats. Even if you "crack" the window a couple of inches-that is not enough to keep the vehicle cool enough for pets. Many dogs have suffered and died in vehicles as a result of ignorance and vets tell us it's a cruel way to die.

Here's good advice: Don't take your dogs in vehicles during summer heat unless the pet will be removed immediately from the vehicle such as going for a walk. And even during a walk, provide plenty of shady rest and water for your dog. Do Not Jog with your dog either!! I've seen lots of ignorant people forcing their dog to "jog" with them. Dogs don't jog in the wild, they walk, trot, and run at high speed when they need to. They don't run in the hot sun for exercise, it's not natural for them to do this so don't force your dog to jog! Wake up!

On the other hand, don't position your pet right in front of an air conditioner either. When I was a kid, my father put our Boxer right in front of the air conditioner as we drove to and from Palm Springs. Within a few days our Boxer had pneumonia. The vet said it was from the air conditioner.

Here's another tragic story of puppies dying in a heated car and by the way, the woman who did this was arrested!:
